Shopfront - a contempory arts centre for under 25s
Shopfront is a contemporary arts centre in Carlton NSW, offering performing arts training and mentorship for young and emerging artsits up to 25 years. Our projects embrace hybrid arts, technology and an immersive approach to performance in community.We are a not for profit organisation and registered charity based in Carlton. Formed in 1976, Shopfront has been providing a unique and important service for young people in the St George area for almost 30 years. We provide opportunities and training in all aspects of the performing arts with a focus on equity of access, diversity of representation, community and collaboration. Work and involvement in Shopfront empowers young people regardless of background, and each year more than 800 young people are involved in varying and diverse arts based activities ranging from sound, lighting and set design, to movement, directing and performance.Opening its creative doors in 1976, Shopfront is Australia’s only performance space and arts complex cooperatively owned by its young (25yrs and under) members. It is nationally acclaimed as a community for young people who wish to develop their creative talents and express themselves through extensive workshop programs; cutting edge devised live and interactive major performances while enjoying access to industry mentoring and professional development.
