Arundel Park Riding for Disabled Inc.
Arundel Park Riding for Disabled Inc has been operating at our current premises on the Gold Coast for the past 26 years offering horse riding lessons and recreational riding/trail riding to the disabled members of our community.
As well as lessons and recreational activities we also offer therapeutic riding (hippotherapy) under the guidance of a physiotherapist, integrated vaulting (gymnastics on horseback) and carriage driving for those people unable or too nervous to sit astride a horse.
Our Centre consists of 20 acres of paddocks and a 20m x 60m fenced and roofed all weather arena with a ramp for ease of mounting and seating for spectators. We also have access to over 200 acres of natural bushland trails filled with native birds and wildlife.
Throughout the course of a week, over 100 volunteers will attend the Centre to assist with riding classes, horse care and maintenance work. Volunteers are always required, no experience is necessary as full training will be given and all volunteers have the opportunity to attend further training days throughout the year.
As a not-for-profit charity organisation we rely heavily on the generosity of the local community for donations, fundraising and grants to allow us to continue with our program.
Horse riding, as well as being an enjoyable outdoor recreation and sport, has many benefits, especially for people with disabilities. These include:
Improved balance, co-ordination and posture.
Assists with the development of gross and fine motor skills.
Offers sensory stimulation.
Encourages reading and speech through games.
Improved concentration and memory.
Improved social interaction and self esteem.
New mobility and access to new areas.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
