Extended Families Australia
EFA provides children with a disability and their families an opportunity to develop a loving and caring ‘grandparent’ or ‘extended family’ relationship with a supportive volunteer. Children are matched to a volunteer who provides valuable companionship, support and practical assistance for the child and their family through regular visits and or community outings or activities. The service is flexible to respond to different needs and currently operates in Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. A program for the Vietnamese community operates in the Western suburbs.
EFA is a service of choice - parents want their child to have meaningful relationships that build self esteem, confidence, social skills and wellbeing; they also need support and respite to cope with the demands of caring for a child with special needs. EFA currently supports over 100 children, but has another 90 waiting for a caring volunteer. Your support really will make a difference.
