Conservation Council South east Region and Canberra
The Conservation Council of the South East Region and Canberra is the peak non-government environment organisation for the Canberra Region. We represent the interests of community and conservation organisations in the region as well as the broader environmental interests of all the citizens of the ACT. The Conservation Council is active in a number of campaign areas, our current focus includes biodiversity protection, action on climate change, improved public transport and wise use of water. We organised the local leg of the Walk Against Warming, the first mass mobilisation of people concerned with climate change. In 2007 we will continue to campaign on climate change and call for governments to act now to reduce climate change.Loss of habitat through land clearing for development is a major issue in our region and the Conservation Council is actively campaigning to preserve habitat for endangered and threatened species. We are here to be a voice for the environment.
