![]() Stillbirth Foundation Australia The Stillbirth Foundation operates to reduce the incidence of stillbirth in Australia, by • Funding and encouraging research into stillbirth, and • Increasing public awareness about stillbirth. 1 in every 140 babies born in Australia is stillborn. Stillbirth is when a baby dies whilst inside the mother and can occur at anytime from 20 weeks until immediately before birth. Each year in Australia, 2000 babies are stillborn and this number has remained steady for over ten years. It is disturbing that the death rate of stillborn babies is not declining and in many cases these deaths remain unexplained. The Stillbirth Foundation is the first and only organisation in Australia dedicated to the sole understanding of stillbirth.
