Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute
The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute conducts research into all forms of heart disease but focuses on heart muscle disease. It is recognised nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence in biomedical research. The VCCRI also plays a vital role in the education and training of Australia 's future scientific and medical leaders. At the VCCRI we try to bridge the gap between the bench and the bedside, between the hard research and the patient that is sick. Nearly 280,000 Australians suffer from heart muscle failure each year, and another 400 are added to the list each week.Five times more women die from heart disease than breast cancer.Nearly twice as many children die each year from congenital heart disease compared with all childhood cancers. One person dies every 10 minutes from heart disease. One in three people will suffer from heart disease.
