 KOALAS IN CARE INC We are a group of volunteers committed to the welfare & preservation of wild koalas in the Greater Taree, Gloucester & Great Lakes LGAs. We provide a 24hr Rescue Service of sick/injured/orphaned koalas. Our koala facility is not open to the general public (this is in the best interest of the koalas in our care). We are licensed by NPWS, independently operated by local volunteers & we have no paid employees. KIC relies on the kind generosity of the public for donations/bequests, support & our own fundraising to enable us to rehabilitate the koalas that are admitted for treatment. We are not Government funded. We provide a unique service to our local koalas covering an area of approximately 843 000 hectares. Without our help many koalas would die unnecessarily. We treat between 50 - 70 koalas per annum. Each one receives one-on-one care & we give them every possible chance of survival with the final result being release back to the wild. KIC is undertaking 'tree farming' & has recently established three farms on private properties. This will provide & enhance habitat for the local koalas but also provide a food source for our facility at the tree mature. Our small but dedicated group of volunteers will go to great lengths to help our sick patients. Some koalas are in care for short periods of time however when treating disease ie chlamydia they have to remain in care for many months undergoing treatment. Our volunteers are very experienced in rescues, care & rehabilitation of koalas.
